Donut Island, Whangamata

What: Kayaking with friends for 4 hours
When: Labour weekend, 2013
Where: Donut Island, Whangamata, Thames-Coromandel NZ
What's there: Best swimming hole with gorgeous rock formations and crystal clear waters. It's literally an island with a hole in the middle hence 'donut' island
Most memorable moment: Joseph and Jen's capsized Kayak and imagining sharks
while kayaking in the open sea (get your freak on)!

Donut island or Whenuakura island is a 20 minute (normally – but for slow rowers like us it can take up to 60 minutes!) kayak row from Whangamata wharf. Consisted of pristine waters and tall native trees which keeps it  hidden from the glaring rays of the sun, it’s the perfect swimming hole on a really hot summer day. (Photo Courtesy of Rhodes)
